The Conversa House

The Conversa House

The Conversa House offers students the opportunity to live with other Conversa students as well as American college students. You share a room with other Conversa students or American college students. This arrangement allows students to gain a greater understanding of American student life. At the Conversa House you will live and study together with your housemates, maintain the household, arrange social activities, and more. You will also participate in weekly parties and other social events associated with the Conversa House. The goal of the Conversa House is to integrate the student into American culture by allowing him or her to live as a young American college student would.

Student with Host Family

Host Families

Living with a host family is a great way to learn about American culture and family life, practice English daily, and make lasting friendships. Many Conversa students have made lifetime friendships with their Host Families. Our families are patient and loving people and are experienced in hosting international students. If you live with a Conversa Host Family, you will:

  1. Eat dinner with the family.
  2. Students who live with host families also enjoy participating in American holidays with the family.
  3. Attend interesting cultural and historical places with the family.
  4. Go with the Host Family to local festivals and shopping centers
  5. Take family trips outside Cincinnati!
  6. Practice English when you go home in the evening and on the weekends.

If you choose to become a member of a family, you should expect that you will assume appropriate responsibilities that go along with being part of your family. These may include helping with the cleaning, cooking, or other tasks associated with maintaining the household. Occasionally, Conversa will place more than one student in the same family. Host families are available on a limited basis for a minimum of 4 weeks, after which time the student and the host family mutually decide whether the student should stay for an extended period of time. Since the number of host families is limited, apply early.

Apartments

For those students who wish to study for six months or longer and would like the independence and convenience an apartment offers, we can help you find the right place. The price of an apartment depends on its location, facilities such as a swimming pool, exercise room, etc. Sharing an apartment with one or more students can reduce your expense. Living in an apartment will require more responsibility on the student's part than living elsewhere.

Hotels

Many hotels are within walking distance of Conversa. Although they are convenient, most do not have a kitchen and cost between $35 and $190 per night. The suite hotels have kitchens but are expensive, usually costing $55 a night or more.
