Small Class SizeThe English program consists of 23 hours of classroom instruction per week. Conversa offers a choice of elective courses in TOEFL, Public Speaking, Conversation, Film making and more. Class size has an average of 5 students. Students can get personal attention and an opportunity to speak English. We offer free study labs after class with a teacher to improve your listening comprehension, study for the TOEFL exam and more. A computer lab is available with electronic mail (e-mail) and Internet Access. Conversa's curriculum is designed for the student to learn English in a short time.

D E S C R I P T I O N S

Core Classes:

Conversation Skills with Grammar: (6 hours per week) This course helps you develop your conversation skills in American English. You will practice English using language you will encounter in different social settings. What language do you need to go to a grocery store or to order food at a restaurant? What vocabulary do you need at work? At a university? With your friends? In the Conversation course, you will learn common phrases, idioms and grammatical structures necessary to function and succeed in American life.

Reading Comprehension: (3 hours per week) Reading class improves your ability to read and understand English. You will read English newspaper articles, books and magazines. The instructor will test your comprehension.

Writing Skills: (4 hours per week) This course improves your writing skills in business or personal correspondence, report writing and essay writing. Beginning students will learn to write sentences and paragraphs. Intermediate and advanced students learn to write convincing essays. Some advanced students do special projects such as writing creative stories and autobiographies. You will also get at least 2 hours per week of access to the computers to practice your writing.

Listening Comprehension: (2 hours per week) Learn to understand spoken English in conversational situations, television, films and in the office or university classroom. You will listen to lectures and cassettes and watch videos where you can improve your listening skills. The instructor will test your comprehension.

Pronunciation Skills: (3.75 hours per week) In this class, you will learn the best pronunciation of American English. You will learn proper pronunciation of specific sounds and the intonation of different types of sentences. Americans will understand you better.

Elective Classes:

TOEFL: (3 hours per week) This class is recommended to those students who plan to take the TOEFL test in the near future. This is a 4-week course that includes three hours of classroom instruction per week and a minimum of 2 hours per week of test practice.

Oral Communication Skills: (3 hours per week) This class gives the student a chance to improve their conversation and speaking skills. No grammar is taught in this class but can be discussed by the teacher if necessary.

Public Speaking: (3 hours per week) Students will learn how to make presentations, learn the art of public speaking and debating. This course is useful for politics, law, business, engineering, medicine and other professions.

Introduction to Computers: (3 hours per week) students learn basic computer and word processing skills. Class includes an introduction to the Internet, how to send e-mail and surf the web.

Advanced Word Processing and Graphic Presentations: (3 hours per week) students learn the advanced features of programs like WordPerfect, Word, Corel Presentations, Excel and Power Point to make reports, newsletters and graphic presentations.

Advanced Internet, Movie Making and Graphic Applications: (2 hours per week) Learn how to find and download application software on the net, design a homepage on the web, make a movie, scan documents and make advanced presentations.
